The New You!

Anyone remember this logo from a classic scifi movie?

I just had to do it… had to go in and try another static site generator. I wanted to make the site a bit more “modern” in appearance. Not too modern, but a bit better looking that the prior version. This current incarnation allows me to quickly create posts in the same manner as I did prior, but also gives the user a nicer experience I think.

Current Situation

This site is using Zola which is created in Rust. I’ve found it to be pretty user friendly as it allowed me to check my old pages that I migrated and it actually identified two dead links in the process. My Coleslaw application would never have done that, it was very bare bones. This seems to have a nice happy medium where its pretty straight-forward to use, but still has some nicer built-in functionality for creating the pages themselves. It supports themeing as as well which is really nice for someone who isn’t fond of doing a lot of front end coding. The less I know about that side of things the better. I’m using a theme called Prism which I’ve made a few modifications to but overall didn’t really have to do that much in order to get everything migrated. It was basically a weekend project to bring everything over, and I didn’t spend that much time on the weekend actually working on it.

Why the Change?

As I mentioned, it was just time to make a few changes and update things. I think that this is closer to my older Hakyll generated page, but its not using Haskell, its using Rust and so far I’ve not actually had to make any changes to the code. The theme is handling all of the CSS and it so far just seems to work. I think I should be happy with this system for some time… but you never know what tomorrow brings. :)

Summary

If you made it this far, I feel I owe it to you to tell you what movie the logo is from if you don’t already know. It’s from the classic scifi movie Logan’s Run released back in 1976. If you haven’t seen this one, its definitely one I would recommend. No spoilers here though, check out the trailer from the above link for yourself.

Until the next blog, don’t talk about it…
